PHILIPS LIGHTING NAMED AS OFFICIAL SUPPORTER OF "LARGE CITIES CLIMATE LEADERSHIP GROUP" WITHIN CLINTON CLIMATE INITIATIVE (CCI)

November 02, 2007
Somerset, New Jersey - Philips Lighting Company, a division of Philips Electronics North America Corporation, an affiliate of Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI), was confirmed by President Bill Clinton in a November 1st announcement as an official partner of the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group, a proactive initiative recently launched as part of the former President's highly-regarded Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI).

The Clinton Climate Initiative has partnered with companies and organizations who will supply energy efficient technology to cities around the world. With cities contributing approximately 75 percent of all heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions to our atmosphere while only comprising 2 percent of land mass, cities are critical to winning this fight and slowing the pace of global warming.

In May 2007, a high-profile group of mayors, chief climate officials, and business leaders from 45 cities met in New York for a C40 Large Cities Climate Summit to share best practices, identify collaborative projects, and chart future action in the fight against global warming. The November 1st launch event included the official announcement and support of Philips Lighting as a key supplier of energy-efficient lighting solutions to the Clinton Climate Initiative and its community of commercial and municipal beneficiaries.

"Climate change is a global issue that we must address immediately if we are to reverse its catastrophic effects," said President Clinton. "I am pleased that the US Conference of Mayors, Wal-Mart and many businesses are working with my foundation to supply energy efficient and clean energy products. By offering these products at a discounted rate, we can ensure that more cities and citizens have access to them and that the market for clean energy technology will grow. Together, I hope that we can have a measurable impact on greenhouse gas emissions around the world."

Said Philips Lighting CEO Kaj den Daas, "Philips Lighting is proud to be part of the CCI's groundbreaking C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group and to promote the use of energy-efficient lighting solutions which can help drive a more environmentally-responsible future for generations to come."

Energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and sustainability have long been guiding principles behind Philips Lighting's product innovations and industry-leading activities. In November 2006, Philips Lighting was honored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the first company in the U.S. to launch company-wide efforts towards meeting the EPA's National Partnership for Environmental Priorities (NPEP) waste minimization standards. In March 2007, Philips Lighting, along with U.S. legislators, environmental groups, and other members of the Lighting Efficiency Coalition, announced plans to promote new performance standards that would help phase out the industry's most inefficient lighting products in favor of more energy-efficient technologies over the coming decade. In addition to involvement with a variety of proactive green initiatives and organizations around the world, Philips Lighting also participated in and helped support the September 2007 Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative.
