Fixture Delivers Money Saving Alternative to Existing Technology
September 5, 2007
Somerset, New Jersey - Philips Lighting Company, a division of Philips Electronics North America Corporation, an affiliate of Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI), proudly announces the introduction of ALTO II&trade, its next-generation low-mercury fluorescent lamp technology for the professional lighting market.
Twelve years ago, Philips Lighting introduced its original ALTO technology and set a new industry standard by reducing the amount of mercury in its T8 fluorescent lamps to an industry low of 3.5 mg. Today, through Philips Lighting's innovative technology, ALTO II T8 lamps now contain only 1.7 mg of mercury, an unprecedented 50 percent reduction from previous levels.
Now incorporated into a variety of 32-Watt Philips T8 lamps, lamps with ALTO II technology will continue to deliver the same high performance as the previous generation of ALTO lamps.
"T8 lamps with ALTO II technology offer the same long life, energy efficiency, and lumen output as the previous generation of ALTO lamps, but with a level of mercury far below the prior version's already-low levels," said Philips Lighting Director of Corporate Communications Susan Bloom. "In this capacity, ALTO II lamps offer a high-performing lighting solution that also represents a new standard in sustainable and environmentally-friendly design."
One of Philips Lighting's leading Green Flagship products, the ALTO II lamps' long-lasting, energy-efficient, and environmentally-conscious product design fully promotes sustainability by helping to reduce CO2 greenhouse gas and mercury emissions as well as minimize replacement and disposal efforts.
Energy efficiency, environmental responsibility and sustainability have long been guiding principles behind Philips Lighting's product and service innovations. In November 2006, Philips Lighting was honored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the first company in the U.S. to launch company-wide efforts towards meeting the EPA's National Partnership for Environmental Priorities (NPEP) waste minimization standards. According to the EPA, Philips Lighting's reduction in chemicals including mercury represents 37 percent of the EPA's national chemical reduction goal for 2011 for all businesses and companies reporting priority chemicals.
In addition to the T8 ALTO II lamp types that are currently available, Philips Lighting will be incorporating ALTO II technology into its broad range of 32-Watt, 17-Watt, and 25-Watt T8 types over the course of the next 18 months.
Delivering maximum performance, high efficiency, cost effectiveness and now featuring the new lowest level of mercury for T8 lamps in the industry to further reduce their impact on the environment, the ALTO II linear fluorescent T8 lamps truly represent a new standard in green lighting for the market's broad range of commercial, institutional, industrial and retail applications.
