Mini MasterColor® - Technical Design Guide

Mini MasterColor
Lamp base and lamp holder Download PDF
  • The name of the lamp is CDM-Tm 20W/830
  • The new Mini MasterColor® system comes with a newly co-developed Twist and Lock PGJ5 lamp holder (see page product drawings for specifications and dimensions). This base has been designed to be suitable for Mini MasterColor® requirements of ignition voltage and safety.
  • Care should be taken that no excessive force is used while inserting the lamp in the socket.
  • Key mechanical dimensions (light center length, diameter lamp holder, position mounting screws) of lamp and lamp holder are exactly the same as halogen capsules with GY6.35 lamp holder (see product drawings).

Operating temperature
  • Lamp temperatures > 3500°C/6332°F can damage the lamp beyond use. In the picture below, measured in a narrow reflector, the highest temperature is reached at the indicated point. The thermocouple mounting location is also given.

Lamp and fixtures
  • The lamp must be used in enclosed fixtures only.
  • For outdoor applications, the system should be used only in fixtures with IP classification > 54.
  • Please note that abrupt changes in burning position may give changes in color appearance: like all CDM lamps, some time (a few hours) is needed for the color to stabilize again in the new burning position.

Electronic ballast
  • The lamp & ballast should be used as a system with the Advance e-Vision RMH-20-E-LF electronic ballast only. As of this publishing, the lamp shall not be driven by any ballast other than the Advance e-Vision RMH-20-E-LF electronic ballast.
  • Electrical connection for the line voltage and lamp connections are clearly marked on the ballast label. Improper wiring may destroy the ballast.
  • The temperature measuring point for the ballast is indicated on product drawings. The maximum allowable case temperature rating for this point is 70°C/158°F.
  • The ballast warranty is 3 years at a maximum rated case temperature of 70°C/158°F.
  • Although the ballast lamp leads are color coded red and blue, there is no distinction necessary as to which lamp holder lead gets connected to the ballast red lead or ballast blue lead.
  • At an ambient temperature of 25°C/77°F,with no additional heat sinking, case temperatures will typically be 45°C/113°F or less (i.e. 20°C/68°F rise over ambient or less).
  • At an ambient temperature of 50°C/122°F,with no additional heat sinking, case temperatures will typically be 65°C/149°F or less (i.e. 15°C/59°F rise over ambient or less).
  • The minimum ambient temperature is –20°C/-4°F (minimum lamp starting temperature).

Lamp holder
  • The specifications and dimensions of the PGJ5 lamp holder can be found on product drawings.
