Innovation Award 2004 - Winners

Competition Winners Fact Sheet
Project Name: Polo Ralph Lauren (Nantucket, Mass.)
Designer: Johnson Schwinghammer Lighting Consultants, Inc.
Award Category: "Experience of Light"
Challenge: Schwinghammer was faced with the challenge of matching Ralph Lauren’s classic brand image with the high-tech lighting sources required to illuminate this new retail store on the island of Nantucket. Located in a 158-year-old historic building, the new store needed ample, yet mood-setting lighting.
Solution: By using a variety of Philips products, Schwinghammer achieved dramatic lighting for the venue. 2.6 watts per square foot provided just the right amount of illumination throughout the store – from show windows to fitting rooms – while maintaining the traditional look and feel of a Polo Ralph Lauren store.

Schwinghammer’s innovation exemplifies how lighting can enhance and stimulate the shopping experience while supporting a retailer’s brand image.
Use of Philips Lighting: Schwinghammer selected Philips 39-watt CDM PAR-20 lamps and Philips TL80 fluorescent lamps because their high-efficiency, high-color rendering light sources provided the linen-white quality needed.
