Innovation Award 2004 - Winners

Competition Winners Fact Sheet
Project Name: Daniel’s (Grand Rapids, Mich.)
Designer: John Sapanaro, Lighting Management, Inc.
Award Category: "Energy Solutions"
Challenge: Situated within the Terrazzo Center in Grand Rapids, Mich., Daniel’s, an upscale clothier, is part of a group of retailers that agreed to incorporate European style and elegance into their shops to attract a certain clientele. Lighting Management was charged with incorporating this Tuscan flair into the shopping environment at Daniel’s, helping to enhance the retailer’s brand imagery, while blending with the neighbors in terms of style and presence.
Solution: Lighting Management’s design team achieved a balance of performance and function, aesthetics, cost savings, low maintenance and energy efficiency to properly illuminate this 14,763 square foot space with an impressive 2.3 watts per square foot.
Use of Philips Lighting: An array of Philips lamps and fixtures were utilized for the project. Philips point source metal halide lamps provided an insurmountable level of energy efficiency, while bringing the store to life with crisp lighting that accentuated the true colors of the merchandise and the store’s unique overall interior.

The extended life of the 16,000-hour Philips ED-17 MasterColor® Metal Halide lamps and the 9,000-hour life of the Philips T4 MasterColor Metal Halide lamps provided a dependable lighting system with low maintenance.
